Stocks Mixed, Mostly Unchanged; Priceline Sets Up Ahead Of Earnings – Investor’s Business Daily

Stocks opened mixed and mostly unchanged Monday as Wall Street readied for another busy week of earnings.

The Dow Jones industrial average and S&P 500 added 0.1%. The Nasdaq fell a fraction.

In the stock market today, early leaders in the Dow included Verizon (VZ), McDonald’s (MCD) and Travelers (TRV).

Crude oil for June delivery was mostly unchanged around $45.89 a barrel. Gold added 0.6% to $1,297 an ounce.

In the energy space, Halliburton (HAL) and Baker Hughes (BHI) called off their $28 billion merger due to resistance from regulators over antitrust concerns. Both stocks added 2% on the news.

Priceline (PCLN) was mostly unchanged ahead of its earnings report Wednesday before the open. The online travel-booking firm continues to show impressive growth for a company with a market capitalization of nearly $67 billion.

Tesla Motors (TSLA) lost 1%. It reports Wednesday after the close. Tesla and Priceline were featured in Monday’s Earnings Preview column.

Inside the IBD 50, Thor Industries (THO) was trading tightly near the top of a long consolidation, paving the way for a possible breakout attempt.
